Friday night lights will once again shine on the green and blue turf that is the football field inside Ken Strong Stadium. The West Haven Blue Devils take on the Shelton Gaels in what looks to be a thrilling home opener for West Haven.

A 6:00 p.m. kickoff time marks the beginning of Week 2 of CTHS Football. Both teams come into this matchup looking to remain undefeated. Shelton took down Conard 41-21, as West Haven man-handled Manchester with a 30-6 victory.

New West Haven head coach Tom Unger secured his first win at the helm of the Blue Devils. Unger took over the head coaching role from Rich Boshea after Boshea announced his immediate resignation about a month before Week 1. Boshea cited struggles with his voice after he had half his tongue removed and rebuilt from his forearm after battling cancer. Overall, Boshea did tell multiple media outlets that he is still 100% cancer free, but struggles with his voice have gotten worse.

According to MaxPreps, West Haven is ranked 15th in the state with Shelton ranked 25th. Over the course of the past 10-15 years historically, Shelton has bullied and beat up on the westie team. It was only about four years ago that the tide finally began to turn for the shoreline team. West Haven has won the last three-straight bouts vs. Shelton, overall the Blue Devils are 3-1 in their last four.
