United States Takes Down Iran 1-0 To Clinch Final Transfer Spot

The United States faced Iran in the World Cup today, marking their first match since 1998. The U.S. came in 0-2-0 with 2-points compared to Iran’s 1-0-1 3-point record.

With this game marking the final for the group matchups we saw the American team in a must-win situation. Iran came in holding the final transfer spot that they would keep via a win or tie.

A purely defensive matchup saw the lone U.S. goal made by Christian Pulisic as the United States took down Iran in 99-minutes, 1-0. The Americans are now 1-1-1 against Iran, historically. The win puts the U.S. in the final transfer spot due to their goal differential tie-breaker over Iran.
