The Shepherd Rams will host the New Haven Chargers on Saturday,November 19th, for the first round of the 2022 NCAA Football Division II playoffs. The Chargers finished 8-2 in the regular season as they went undefeated at home this season. The Rams went 10-0, a perfect regular season that was tarnished by a 24-21 loss against Indiana in the PSAC Championship game, making the Rams overall record 10-1.
This will mark the first time since 1992 since the Chargers faced the Rams in Shepherdstown, VA, UNH won that game 49-23. The two teams have only faced each other twice, that was in 1992 and 1993. The 1993 matchup was in New Haven where the Chargers won 55-0. Overall the Chargers have outscored the Rams 104-23, but that was about three decades ago. Nevertheless the UNH Chargers historically are undefeated against the Rams squad.
UNH is coming off of a 54-14 away victory against rivals SCSU, with that they have momentum going into to the first round.
The Chargers are led by QB1 Connor Degenhardt, who completed 59% of his passes this season. Degenhardt went 146-for-246 passing for 2,044 yards with 28 touchdown passes to just 5 interceptions. Degenhardt and the Chargers offense have shown to be quick and heavy scorers, outscoring opponents 366-163. The senior QB has already announced that he will be trying for the NFL Draft, a playoff win would add to what is an already impressive resume.
Kickoff is set for 12:00 on Saturday at Rams Stadium.
