Chris Kreider’s New York Rangers career can be summarized by always coming up clutch in the biggest moments. Kreider is tied with Mark Messier for the most goals in NHL playoff history in games facing elimination (16 goals in 30 games).

It does beg the question - If the Rangers are still trying to compete - how does trading one of the best current playoff performers improve your team?

The New York Rangers are in deep trade talks with the Anaheim Ducks, but in order for a trade to be set Kreider would have to waive his no trade clause as Anaheim is on the list of 15-teams he doesn’t want to be dealt to. Part of the trade framework involves the Ducks picking up Kreider’s full salary, with no retention.

Now Kreider is coming off of a dramatically down season compared to 2023/24 after starting off hot. Kreider scored six goals over his first nine games and also tied Jean Ratelle for the second most game-winning goals in Rangers franchise history.

Let me remind you that Kreider revealed in April that he dealt with multiple health issues over the course of the 2024/25 season, including back problems and vertigo. Kreider also disclosed that he suffered a hand injury in the first game after the 4 Nations Face-Off, which may require offseason surgery.

34-year-old Kreider was originally drafted by New York in 2009 as their first round selection, and made his debut in 2012. Since then he is the Rangers all-time playoff leader in goals, power-play goals and game-winning goals. Kreider has 326 goals and has netted 582 points in 883 regular season games.
