Jonathan Quick had a mammoth workload Sunday night as New York took on Detroit for some Rangers v Red Wings hockey. Both teams came onto the ice seeking win 11 of their respective seasons, and for Detroit the win-loss column shifted in the win slot for them.
A close 2-1 win for the Red Wings saw the Rangers defense sweating by game’s end. 2-1 is as close as it can get with that critical one-point difference as the Red Wings broke a 1-1 tie in the third and held on for the win.
New York’s defense was overworked as Jonathan Quick did everything possible with 40 saves in 42 attempts for a .952sv%. New York’s lone goal came by Mika Zibanejad, assisted by Artemi Panarin and Will Cuylle.Â
The mainly silent Rangers offense wasted what was a vintage throwback performance by the seasoned Jonathan Quick. The Rangers were outplayed the entire game, being outshot 42-19. Those measly 19 shots on goal should’ve been so much more, especially when you’re taking on a team that came in ranking 27th in save percentage at .882 and 23rd in GAA at just over 3 per-game.
New York now falls to 1-7-1 at home this season and overall 10-8-2 as they continue to barely be a midfield contender in the Metro.Â
