New York Mets Not Happy With Jacob deGrom After Rehab Start

Updated: May 18, 2023

The New York Mets are not happy with Pitcher Jacob deGrom after he made a rehab start several nights ago. Jacob deGrom took the mound for the single-A St. Lucie Mets, marking his first start since spring training and first regular season appearance in any level since the 2021 season. Throwing 24 pitches Jacob deGrom would strike out all five of the batters faced as he went 1.2 innings. Despite the successful rehab start the New York Mets front office are not happy with the multi-time CY Young winner as he topped out at 101mph, averaging about 100mph on his fastball. The Mets wanted deGrom to tone it down in his velocity, Mets Manager Buck Showalter hinted there had been discussions with deGrom about “dialing it back” with his fastball this early in the rehab assignment. Overall deGrom hit triple numbers seven times in the start as the Mets fear that he could possibly face a set back in recovery.
