A rubbermatch series win for the Mets puts the team's momentum in an upward place as New York begins their three-game series tonight against the Nationals.

One of the final home games of the 2025 regular season has the Mets vying to keep a playoff berth via wild card. Taking two-out-of-three against the Padres is just want the Mets needed, but now they need to sweep the crippled Washington Nationals.

Washington came into this late-season series 62-91, long eliminated from any kind of playoff berth as they look to play spoiler on their NL rivals’ plan.

The Mets have a +2.0 game lead over Arizona, who will face the Phillies tonight. Despite a series win against the Padres, San Diego still holds a +4.0 game lead over the Mets.

It is very apparent at this point that the Mets will either make the playoffs via the final wild card berth, or will just miss out and have their season end at game 162.
