The New York Jets have a fifth-year option for 2026 with their former first-rounder, who is now eligible for what could possibly be his first contract extension of his NFL career.
Sauce Gardner, who is set for a $5.3 million dollar paycheck this fall and $20.2 million in 2026 on the Jets option, reiterated a point on Friday that was made by Deion Sanders.

Gardner retweeted a quote made by Sanders, who responded to a March tweet by Gardner, where he talked about how if someone could educate him as to why the CB market is significantly lower than other positions. Sanders responded, ending the tweet with “Yall need to stand up and stand out and believe in what u possess.” The Gang Green star quoted Sanders’ response with the salute emoji
Only five cornerbacks have an AAV that averages more than $20.2 million.
Gardner, who is a three-year starter for the Jets, has 40 passes defended along with 4 interceptions.
Despite wanting and believing he qualifies for a money-maker contract, with Derek Stingley’s $90 million deal across three years being a target range, Gardner did not consider being a holdout. Sauce said “My main focus is being the best football player I could be,” while also stating that the talks have been going good with the Jets organization.
