BJ McLeod Sets NASCAR History At EchoPark

BJ McLeod set NASCAR Cup Series history Sunday night at EchoPark Speedway, with a scoring sheet that has not been seen since the Truman Administration.
McLeod, the part owner and part-time driver of the Live Fast Motorsports No.78 Cup team, made his return to the series after last competing in the fall race at EchoPark, which was a rare back-to-back race weekend for McLeod. The Florida native made the Daytona 500 earlier this year, but would see him wreck out in the opening laps due to a mechanical failure.
McLeod posted the slowest qualifying time and would line up in 37th to begin the Sunday race that would end Monday morning after a long rain delay. He would complete 105 of 263 laps before pulling into the garage and being listed as out on the scoring sheet. McLeod would be credited with a 38th place last place finish and awarded 1 point, to bring his season total up to 4, which is last (40th place) out of all current Cup eligible point drivers this season.
This was only the second time in Cup series history that a driver was classified in last-place due to “mechanical” issues. The only other occasion was on October 14th, 1951, when Bill Stickler No.72 parked his 1948 J & M sponsored Hudson Hornet at Oakland Stadium in California. Oakland Stadium was a 0.625-mile dirt track and was run the same day as the much more popular Martinsville race, which had much more famous and familiar names in the field such as Lee Petty and Frank Mundy in it.
