82-80 would seem all-too familiar for Yankee fans – how about 61-101? A 100-game loss season for the Yankees has not been seen since the Titanic sank and New York was known as the Highlanders. 112 years (and counting) since a 100+ loss season for the Yankees.
Baseball Reference has New York at 71.6 wins and 90.4 losses, with a best record of 82-80 and a worst record of 61-101, finishing last in the ALE.
How BR came up with that projection is absolutely mind boggling, especially after the offseason New York had.
Let me remind you, the Yankees have:
Aaron Judge
Juan Soto
Giancarlo Stanton and his new batting stance
Healthy Anthony Rizzo
Plus, Gerrit Cole will be returning within 1-2 months and Luis Gil (who has already shown to dominate in the Bronx) is back in the rotation.
I could see New York going around the 94-100 win range. The talent has and definitely is there now; it’s just a matter of who will stay healthy.
