Not a single person would have expected the Philadelphia Phillies to make the playoffs, let alone go to the World Series. Everyone expected the Houston Astros to stay as the dominant team and be a World Series contender.
Here we are now as the fateful best-of-seven game series is on the horizon of Minute Maid Park. The Philadelphia Phillies, a wild card entry team that only won 87-regular season games and finished third in their division, is about to play their first World Series game since the 2009 season against the Houston Astros. The Astros come into their home stadium after going 106-56 in the regular season, finishing first in a division that they have basically led since spring training ended.
Houston is the favorite to win it all as it is their fourth World series appearance in the last six years. Philadelphia is viewed as the underdog as they have been the entirety of the regular season and 2022 playoff tenure, a true Cinderella story is in the making, just four wins away from the story’s end.
