Nick Conlan's Rushing Game Has Soared To New Heights

The West Haven Blue Devils are 2-0 going into Week 3, they are set to face Ridgefield at Veterans Field this Friday at 7:00pm.

An upset win on the road against previously 8th-ranked Staples was followed up by embarrassing Jonathan Law with a 20-plus point win.

West Haven has not thrown the ball a lot this season. Quarterback Nick Conlan has only notched 22 passing attempts through the two games, he is 12-for-22 (54.5%) passing with 282 yards. Nevertheless Conlan and the Westies have been very effective in the pass game, he is averaging 23 yards per completion and is sporting a 120.3 QBR with a 4-1 TD-INT ratio.

The undefeated success has come from the ground. Nick Conlan along with Hamden transfer Camren Kemp have been an unstoppable duo this season. Kemp came into 2023 as the top-ranked running back in Connecticut, so far he has stood strong to that title as he ranks 7th in the state for rushing yards with 293.

Keeping the focus on Conlan: the junior QB has earned the nickname ‘Vanilla Vick’ as through 27 carries he has 247 rushing yards. Between 18 games from Conlan’s freshman and sophomore seasons he only had 11 total, last season he only averaged a yard-per-rush on 43 attempts. Nick Conlan has seen a 2245.4% increase in his running game this season, he currently ranks 19th in Connecticut among rushers in yards and 9th in average with 9.1.
