Is Yankees' Ben Rice The Key To Their Future Success?

Ben Rice is going to be the next major league all-round catcher. Rice, 24, resides with the Somerset Patriots, the Double-AA affiliate of the New York Yankees. Rice tore through Single-A ball with Tampa and Hudson Valley, being promoted to the Patriots mid-season.

In 48 games with Somerset, Rice batted a .327 with a 1.049 OPS. 48 RBIs means an average of one per-game, which was helped by the 16 souvenirs that he sent into the stands. Rice averaged just under one strikeout per game in AA, at 0.8 strikeouts per game (42 in 48).

Rice received a non-roster invite to Spring Training and is in contention to begin 2024 in Triple-AA. The former IVY Leaguer was ranked on MLB.com as the 21st-best prospect in the Yankees organization.
