Hamden Wins; Knocks West Haven Blue Devils Out of Class LL Playoffs

What a difference a single game can make.

Last night the West Haven Blue Devils took on the Fairfield Prep Jesuits at home on Thanksgiving Eve for the final game of the 2021 football season, both teams entered with an 8-1 record. Despite having the same record, West Haven was not fully locked into the CIAC Class LL playoffs unlike the Prep team due to the point system the CIAC uses. West Haven game in undefeated at home with a 5-0 record, but have not beaten the Jesuits squad since the 2016 season. Last night featured a true defensive game, but was mainly a one-sided affair as West Haven who lives or dies of the run game with an average of 281 rushing yards per game was shut down last night. The Jesuits made the Devils bleed blue as Fairfield wins 28-7, a blowout victory. West Haven entered play with the 6th seed in the class LL standings with the top eight teams making the playoffs, despite having an 8-2 record West Haven was pushed down to the 10th seed with the only way of making the playoffs is with a Notre Dame-West Haven victory over Hamden.

Fast forward to Thanksgiving Day ND-WH played Hamden and lost 35-12. With Hamden's win they are now 8-2 with the 8th and final seed. Hamden and West Haven are just separated by 3 points, Hamden with 129 and West Haven with 126 with Trumbull in the middle with 128.33 points.
