On Thursday, Brittney Griner was found guilty of drug possession and drug smuggling. This verdict comes nearly six months after she was detained by Russian police while in an airport. Prosecutors aimed and got a nine-and-a-half year prison sentence for the American basketball player. Overall just a month ago Griner pleaded guilty to the charges that held a maximum sentence of 10-years. Griner said that she made “an honest mistake” and didn’t know she was breaking the law when she brought cannabis in the country.
